Dealing With Stress

July 8th, 2007

If you asked a smoker why it is that he/she smokes by far the most common response would be, “to relieve stress.” In addition, I would bet that almost every smoker has said something similar to the following during a stressful situation, “I have got to have a cigarette!” Fortunately, this is an aspect of the smoking addiction that you can change relatively easily with a little work. First of all, you need to ask yourself, “Does smoking really help me deal with stress or a stressful situation?” The answer is no, in fact, biologically it just makes it worse. When you are under stress the adrenaline is already pumping and your body is preparing for the worst. If you add nicotine to this situation all you are doing is artificially ramping up your body to a fever pitch. This is exactly the opposite of what you need to deal with a stressful situation.

Call to smokers - Choose Life while you still can

June 24th, 2007

Today i was at a funeral for a close relative. He smoked all his life and died a very early death from the dreaded cancer. Watching all his friends smoking and simultaneously crying at his funeral gave me quite a sharp spike of irony. While smoking and actively killing themselves, they grumbled about the famous question: “Why? He was so young.” Yet the answer was quite literally in their very own hands at the precise moment they asked the question. CIGARETTES. That’s the answer, SMOKING KILLS.

What? Do you not believe it? You may try not to, but ignorance is not bliss at all when you are dying of cancer.

For your own sake, and if not for your sake, for those who love you and know you, you have to stop smoking without another seconds thought on the matter. They say suicide is illegal, yet with the current statistics of smokers and smoking related deaths, how on earth can smokers be doing anything other than committing suicide?

It’s really simple, no matter how hard you may believe it will be to live without smoking, it is a walk in the park compared to dying for your addiction. I would much rather you didn’t wait to prove me right on this, in fact i wish i wasn’t right, but i am , and i have watched too many people die for their nicotine habit in my life to beat around the bush.

Document Your Habit

June 19th, 2007

Do you know exactly how much you smoke? Most likely you have a general idea based on how many days your cigs last before buying your next carton or pack. But I would guess that you don’t know how many exactly per day or when you smoke the most on any given day. One way to begin the road to quitting smoking for good is to create a calendar with the times throughout the day that you smoke. It is simple enough to do if you make it as easy as possible. Buy a small notebook or calendar that you can carry in your pocket or purse and write down the time when you have a cigarette on whatever day it happens to be. If you actually keep a good record you will be able to identify many aspects of your addictive habit that you probably never even thought of before.

One such eye opening discovery is finding out just how many cigarettes you smoke on a given day. This is usually much more than you ever thought. Another interesting thing is identifying when you smoke the most. If you are like most people there are certain times in the day when you smoke more than other times. Often, there are certain days that a person smokes more than other days. Once you have identified these “peak times” you can start consciously attempting to avoid these peak times or to change your pattern at those times. This insight usually leads to the realization that you smoke more because of external factors in your life than as the result of addiction. You can also begin the process of setting goals for the amount of cigarettes you smoke a day or a week. The ultimate goal is zero cigarettes a week but for most smokers just cutting down is a positive step that will eventually lead to an easier transition to the non-smoking life.

YOU ARE AN ADDICT

June 5th, 2007

Many people feel that being a ’smoker’ is a bit different from being a drug addict. Smokers love to consider themselves as different from otehr drug addicts, but the fact is, if you smoke tobacco regularly, you are probably more addicted to your chosen drug (nicotine) than even a HEROIN addict.

In Canada, cigarette packs contain a message such as “Warning: Cigarettes are Highly Addictive”. It is a known fact that nicotine is one of the leading drugs in its grip over its victims or users. Many people have said that tobacco addiction is more gripping and addictive than Heroin addiction. So does anyone know the answer to this question? :

“Why is there no US Addiction Warning on packs of cigarettes?”

Smokers are not only total and utter drug addicts, but they are also probably the most misled group of people in modern times. Get some sense, get some objectivity, and look at your smoking addiction for what it is. Just because you don’t hang around on street corners in hooded tops, doesn’t mean you are any better than a ‘junkie’.

YOU ARE A JUNKIE! You’re hooked on JUNK! And that Junk kills you. Stop Smoking NOW!
